Working with computers - Part 4

Destiny called, I saw a small advertisment in 'Computer Weekly' that said come to Gibraltar to install the first computer on the Rock, an IBM System/32

The company was a freight forwarder, called Pegasus Air and Sea Services Ltd and the machine produced waybills, manifests, customs clearances and Invoices and kept track of accounts. It also produced payrolls and as it was the only computer on the Rock we sold time on it to other people, including a bank and Government.

We quickly expanded to have a System/34 with terminals and a remote S/32 in the UK with a dial up data connection at 1200bps.

I bought a Commodore PET for 650 Pounds which was programmed in BASIC and wrote some programs to simulate ships sailing between the UK and Gibraltar, which was a lot easier than writing container loading programs in RPG II.
